Nicola Pryce's The Cornish Captive is one of those books that sucks you in when you see it on a bookshelf in the likes of Waterstones. A stunning cover that depicts romance and a by-gone era in its portrait of a woman. However, the author does not just tell us a story about romantic longings of days gone by, this is the story of a woman who was kept captive because she is thought to be insane. When protagonist Madeline Pelligrew's husband is murdered, she is so distraught she is thought to have lost her mind, and is locked away for over a decade, while the tagline on the cover 'free at last, will she love again?' promises the reader the happy ending we all want for Madeline.

Pryce has written a series of books based around the picturesque setting of Cornwall in England in the 1800s, and Cornish Captive in the sixth in the series. Stunning settings, a well developed character and a gripping story. A great read for any fans of historical fiction or just those who like to get lost in a good novel.
