Back in Cornwall in 1800 the world was a very different place. A place where a woman can be locked away as "insane" on the say so of one corrupt man. The whole storyline around this book details how she tries to seek revenge on those who have done her wrong. Those who have taken away not only her liberty but her entire life.
As a concept it's an interesting one and the history element of how this could happen was eye opening.
However I struggled with the sheer number of characters and trying to keep up with who was who. So many layers of people working on behalf on dodgy coves that I got quite lost.
I think I got the basics of the storyline in the end but can't say that I found the journey particularly satisfying.
This is a follow on from the author's previous book "The Captain's Girl" though so may have been easier to follow had I read it's predecessor first.
