Wind back the clock for this captivating historical read to the 1800's when France and Britain were at loggerheads. Bring in the setting of Cornwall and a widow who has just been released from an asylum whose riches have been stollen by an aristocrat and you get this great story plot. I have never read any other books by this author although I believe this is one in a series but I had no problem in reading this as a stand alone and now feel the urge to seek out more in the series . I loved the main character Madeleine Pelligrew and the insight into how females were manipulated in the era with their riches taken away from them and silenced into hospital establishments or work houses .This is a feel good romantic historical novel giving good reflection into the day to day lives of that particular period of time and although not my usual type of book I thoroughly enjoyed.
