This is a great book to read pre Christmas to get any reader in the festive mood. It is the story of Clare, mid 40’s, recently divorced who moves back into her childhood home with her mum who she never really felt close to. It involves Clare’s son Kyle, mum Elaine and Sam a handsome bachelor local vet (there always seems to be one in every village!) Not forgetting Goliath the Great Dane.

Whilst the story is a romance with middle age modern life intertwined I did not find it too soppy, too Christmasy or too far fetched. Underlining is Clare’s determination to learn from her first love and to strive to be her own person. I liked the dynamic between Clare and her mum, her mum and Kyle, the many village characters and of course the Christmas show.

So I would recommend you to buy this book, and sit on a rainy Winter afternoon/weekend with a blanket, cup of hot chocolate/glass of mulled wine, maybe some biscuits and enjoy.
