The Country Village Christmas Fair has all the ingredients I look for in a light, guilty pleasure of a book to sooth stress and absorb me in some festive magic in the run up to Christmas. The characters are engaging, not just the main romantic leads, but all of Claire's family and friends have interesting stories and personalities. I was interested to hear about all of them. Even Goliath the Great Dale featured with personality and warmth.
The book followed a tested formula in the style of Katie Ford, single woman moves to new location, has a past to recover from, a new challenge arising and a potential love interest that you will along to romance. You know it's going to work out in the end, but there are tantalising obstacles along the way. The book is shamelessly sentimental, with lots to tug at heart strings. For sheer, unchallenging escapism, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
