From the very first few pages I could tell that this book was my kind of book, a cosy romance set in lovely countryside with some likeable characters. Clare is recently divorced and has returned home to live with her mum for a while while she gets things sorted out, her son Kyle is away at university in Bath studying performing arts, so with the majority of her possessions in storage, there is just herself to worry about, or is there more, after a short while she worries that something is wrong with her mum, is she coping, especially after losing her husband. Her favourite pastime of belonging to the amateur dramatics club is also no more after it burnt down a couple of years ago, and she has a great dane dog called Goliath to look after. Goliath is a massive dog with a massive personality, when Clare gets to know him better she enjoys taking him on his daily walks. Another village resident that also features strongly, is the local vet, Sam, who has literally collided with Clare in a few hilarious moments. After only a short while Clare finds herself settling back into village life and when she meets up with her old school friend Jenny, she really starts to settle in, as if she has never left. As Christmas approaches Clare has an idea to bring the community together in the form of a Christmas talent show, and at the same time realises that she and Sam are also being brought together. Things don't always go to plan and what with the weather and people's lives, you hope that everyone in the village will have a good Christmas but will they?
This book will appeal to fans of Cathy Bramley and Heidi Swain and anyone who loves to read Christmas stories. Full of friendships and community spirit, a lovely read and well worthy of 5 ☆.
