Clare is 45 and newly divorced. She finds herself having to move back to her childhood home and live with her Mum. Her Mum used to be at the heart of the village amateur dramatic society, but since the old village hall burned down that part of her life has ended. This is the backdrop to Clare’s decision to cheer her Mum up by organising a Christmas talent show in the new village hall.
In a parallel story line, Clare is forced to take on walking her Mum’s Great Dane, Goliath, although she has no experience with dogs of any size, let alone an unruly giant.
