The Country Village Christmas Show, by Cathy Lake is about a woman called Clare. Clare is recently divorced, her only son living his own life away at university and she is recently homeless, after selling the family home. Clare is at a crossroads in her life and decides to return to her childhood home, in a small village called Little Bramble. Clare's mother still lives there in a picturesque cottage, all alone apart from Goliath the Great Dane. Clare's father died many years ago and Clare has never had an easy relationship with her mother, and now their relationship is even more difficult. Clare feels criticised by her mum and they have very different personalities. The story focuses on how Clare becomes immersed in village life and begins to live her life again. Reading the story I felt that I had read it before. I knew the characters and how the story would end. I am not sure if this is a relaunch under a different title? Or if not, just like other books I have read. An enjoyable read.
