Truly truly wonderful. This was overwhelmingly cute and heartwarming and the first time Clare visits the Vet actually had me laughing out loud, and several other moments did after too. It was the perfect combination of romance, friendship, family and laughter. I think it helps that I too live in a small country village.
I'm so glad this has been made into a series and I can dive straight into the next two books because I am desperate to return to Little Bramble and all of the fantastic characters. There wasn't a single person I disliked. There was even pansexual representation!
This is my first Cathy Lake book and certainly won't be my last. She is a fantastic writer and a fantastic storyteller. The setting felt so intimate, like you were part of the community, and she manages to write romances in a way which isn't at all cringey.
I loved the little tie-in to the next book too; that was a brilliant touch. And the dress rehearsal of the show brought tears to my eyes.
This series might have my heart but I'll wait until the next book before I say for sure...
