Author Alexandra Curry adopted a beautifully lyrical style of writing in this book. Which was entirely appropriate to the place, time and events.
The story is based on real events so that made it all the more gripping. Although the way children were treated in China during this time made for harrowing reading. They were used and abused.
The characters and descriptions throughout were vived and the story included some twists and turnes. Some elements were very moving but I would have liked a little more information at the end of certain scenes..,
Although I enjoyed this book I can’t quite put my finger on something that was missing..?
But if you’re into historicl/factual books maybe give this one a go.
