It is a good story however I struggled to get into it at the start. It didn't flow easily and therefore I struggled to become engrossed in it straight away.
Once I kind of got in the flow of the writers style - which was an interesting, almost lyrical way of writing - the content was amazing. It was clearly researched and brought the true story from 1881 china to life.
I thought the cover of the book was classically beautiful and I would definitely reach for it in a bookshop. It reflected the story perfectly. It has that historical look and before you even read it you can see where the story is set. This helped me at the start when I couldn't get into the book.
