I was immediately drawn to this book because it's Holly Black. I love her writing and she's writing about the fae again! She writes the fae so well, they are not the sweet creatures so often shown in fairy tales, instead, she shows the darker side and the trickier side to them. They lie and they can be cruel and she is so good at turning things on their head in a way you don't expect. IN The Coldest Girl in Cold Town she showed the reality of vampires and that they cannot be totally romanticised. In this book I imagine she will do something similar, I certainly got that impression for the small amount I read.

I love how it begins and it's not even quested that Jude's older sister as pointed, feline-like ears and split pupils which are so obviously inhuman. It was accepted as fact and it was only the fae at the door which revealed there was more to the story. I can only hope the reasons for Jude's mother fleeing faerie land will be revealed later on as I am so very intrigued at that prospect.

The little I have read I am certain I will adore this latest book by Holly Black. She always manages to write a unique perspective on creatures I think I know and she always draws me in and surprises me with characters, and it looks like there will be a whole lot going on in this.
