The twins' sister Vivi was always different. Cadon arrives on an ordinary night. He kills the children's mother, and reclaims Vivi, his heir. The twins are taken to faerieland, and treated as nobles. Changlings have been welcomed in Court before.

One thing's for sure - there ain't no fish fingers in Elfhame.

I love Jude and Taryn's voice. They are easy to relate to, and represent the 'ordinary' reader. I also love the immediate danger they are placed in. Any visit to court could result in the children dancing to their death. These are old folk stories, but Black has used them to create suspense in her novel.

The folksy feel is fantastic. The chapter headings look innocent and quaint, like the old traditions, but Black has the dark tone of fairy tales spot on. The thorns on the cover made me think the same thing.

Holly Black is an author I have read before. The folk tales are similar to source material she has used in the past, but this novel has a darker feel. I would love to see how her work has progressed.
