This book is cruel. It says it in the title and the blurb does mention it but it is way more horrible than it suggests. This book will not spare you.
The majority of the characters are completely unlikeable, some you’ll come to despise but I believe this is the point. However, their motivations are a little unclear. Jude in particular is a little difficult to understand. The main motivation we are given is that she wants to be better than the faeries. That’s it. This serves alright in the beginning but later on does not help understand her actions later on.
There are scenes I believe could have been left out without hindering the story but that didn’t dampen my enjoyment of this book.
The writing style fluctuates throughout the novel between an older style of English and a more modern style of writing, which can be a bit disjointing to read.
The plot was interesting and keeps you interested in the book and I can not wait for the sequel.
