I’m surprised this book is so hyped up because it was overwhelmingly average. The plot was pretty uninteresting because the whole goal of her becoming a knight isn’t all that cool. It gets better once Jude becomes the Prince’s spy, but even then her goal isn’t really clear. The ending was decent though, and I liked the revelation about Oak’s parents. I liked Vivienne, Oak and Oriana, but wasn’t the biggest fan of Taryn, especially after she ended up getting with Locke, I thought that was so weird and then her and Jude duelling was even weirder. Jude was an okay main character but other than her being good at fighting and being strangely brave against Cardan and his group, I didn’t see many other character traits. I hated her and Cardan, though. His friend tried to kill her, he and his friends constantly bullied her, and his reasoning for hating her was that she had parents who loved her and she wasn’t abused physically like he was and he couldn’t stop thinking about her? And then they kissed? That entire thing is so revolting and I cannot bring myself to trust him. His abuse does not redeem him, and I’m really not a fan of them getting together, which will inevitably happen.
