Holly Black created an amazing world of faeries living in Elfhame! Jude, a mortal living there (since her parents were murdered on the mortal lands) with her twin, Taryn and her "adoptive" father Madoc in his Stronghold in Insmire, struggles with the power imbalance between her and the Fae. She appears to despise them, as she is treated as inferior by many, especially by Prince Cardan Greenbriar, whom she repeatedly defies. She continuously surprises people with her wits, as she proves them wrong about being a mortal. She joins Prince Dain and bargains with him, in her desperation for power and proving people wrong. Her character development throughout the book is marvelled at, as she appears to become stronger, getting involved in plots and murders! Something interesting blooms between her and Cardan, as she finally learns about his backstory and why he hates her. The cover of this book is beautiful, as are all the covers of the Folk of the Air Series. I especially like the map at the beginning of every book.
