I quite literally could never put the book down! So many twists and turns, very dramatic and overall beautiful. A thrilling yet romantic tale of head strong Jude Duarte and the cruel Prince Cardan. I've read all three now and they honestly make my top 10 recommended book list. I couldn't sleep whilst reading 'The Queen of Nothing', and ended up having to wake up extremely early just to finish it. There isn't enough praise i could give this book and the fabulous Holly Black.
As for Cardan and Jude’s love story, I find it so refreshing! Some people didn’t understand it or liked it because it’s not “conventional.” Cardan is cruel to Jude and they seem to hate each other with a passion. But they also want each other with passion. They’re so unconventional!!! You never knew for certain what they were going to do and it kept you on the edge of your seat!!! I read the whole trilogy, and I was almost happy they kept betraying each other because where’s the fun in a cliché love story. This romance had SUBSTANCE!!! It was complicated and weird and just all the right ingredients for an epic love story!
let me just say that this book was indeed cruel. When I started reading I constantly put the book down and tried to distract myself so I WOULDN’T have to read it . The beginning was viciously confusing. There was so much introduced and not explained . For example the courts? The different kingdoms or whatever. The different King and such. I won’t lie in the end I was still confused with who was who. And what was what. If I was a regular reader looking for a good fantasy book to read on her free time I would’ve put this book down within the first 6 chapters , I would’ve gave up. BUT I will say that Holly Black made everything tie together beautifully in the end leaving me speechless and wanting more . I loved how she made Jude so ... human. That hers and Cardan’s relationship wasn’t forced , there was problems as well as seeping romance.
