Holly Black truly is an amazing writer. I would say that this is definitely the slowest book in the series to read, but that is just because of the beautiful story building in the beginning of the book which introduces us into the land of the Fae. This book is the definition of enemies to lovers through Cardan and Jude’s twisted romance. Cardan and Jude’s hate for each other is like nothing else I’ve read, but underneath this raging anger that is built between the two, there is an underlying attraction between them. Throughout the whole series Holly Black develops Jude and Cardan’s relationship to portray the enemies to lovers trope, which is magnificent. Another major reason to read this book is that the main protagonist Jude is characterised as powerful and independent. Jude is the opposite to most female protagonists in novels and is definitely a feminist character we should idolise. She is powerful and strong, guides her own story and doesn’t let a man change her for love. I highly recommend you read this book, and the whole series if you love the enemies to lovers trope and want to be introduced to the land of the Fae.
