This was the first book I read by Holly Black and I was pleasantly surprised by how well written and well thought out the world she has built was.
The main character develops massively throughout the book and you end up rooting for her to keep growing into the full potential of a woman in her position.
There is a wonderful combination of drama, violence and romance to keep this story moving along and it I can only imagine that it continues into the next one of the series and I can wait to see how far it goes.
There are characters you begin by loving and end up despising and characters that start out as hateful monsters and end up winning your heart and sympathy.
Although I am not normally a fan of fantasy books that include the modern world alongside that of Faerie kingdom, I was pleasantly surprised that this book makes this pairing a useful one rather than a throw away element to the story. Also the references the traditional folk lore of Seelie and Unseelie courts was a wonderful addition to the world.
