This book was recommended a LOT by booktok, and influenceable little me of course had to buy the entire series. Getting into the book, I had no idea what to expect except from the things bookTok told me; it was an enemies to lovers story and Jude was a badass protagonist. At first the story felt super childish. Expecting an enemies to lovers story, I was disappointed by the fact that it was more of a bully story at first. The fact they were still in High School also didn’t make it feel very grown up. The world building was a bit difficult at first but I soon got the hang of it. The beginning was really hard to get through but eventually I started liking it more and more. There were some things that were important to the plot that I had guessed from the beginning, which was a little disappointing but good for my ego. I loved the writing style and the characters, which made up for the fact it started out a bit too slow for me. After adjusting my expectations I loved it and I couldn’t wait to get into the second book. One last thing, in the books Jude keeps talking about how beautiful the faeries were and how much she’d like to look like them, but then proceeded to tell about their turned around feet and green faces with snouts which was very funny to me.
I’d recommend this book if you like YA fantasy, as long as you don’t expect the usual enemies to lovers. I promise the second book gets better :)
