Okay so I have given this book four stars, but I am very on the fence about it as the rest of the series is without doubt worthy of five stars.
However, when I first finished this book I thought it was four stars, so feel it is only fair to award four.

This series is a whole rollercoaster. This book took me a little while to get into (which is similar to any new fantasy series I start) but by the end I was hooked. This book, to me, very much set up the foundation for the next books to build on to, so at times I did feel that Jude and Cardan's relationship was not as developed as it could have been - although that all changed in the next book. This book is so worth the read, and will leave you running to pick up the next one. Jude and Cardan are both my comfort characters and I love love love Elfhame and the other characters.

Although I have given this four stars, this series is still one of my all time favourites and I will recommend this book to literally everyone.
