This is a fantasy world set in the modern era. What I really like about it is Jude. I really like her character as a morally grey person. I like the fact that she's strong and she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She admits what she wants and she tries her best to get it. Cardan is introduced off the bat as someone she dislikes and we see their relationship dynamic as enemies. Though We vaguely get to see how cardan really feels about Jude within the book. I feel like the relationship could've been explored more.
Also, I would've liked to see some more depth to explore the incident as to what happened to her parents as it would've given the book more substance. Nonetheless it made me rather intreaged and curious about Madoc.
Overall I liked the way the book started as it pulled me in and made me want to continue reading.The magic system was quite fun to read about and easy to comprehend.
