Can you believe this was my first Holly Black novel? Because I cant. Everything about this book is beautiful - the cover, the map & the characters. Holly has this gift where she makes the impossible become possible and the setting comes to colorful life! The world building is some of the best I've read for a while & the plot twists are enough to give you a heart attack...
Jude is a protagonist that grows on you as you read on. Shes a stubborn character and subjects herself to awful pranks by the faeries and I admit some of it was a little hard reading. (Also I developed a real dislike to her sister Taryn for just being an utter wet-wipe). Jude is extremely protective of her family especially and starts to stand up for herself & play them at their own game.
Prince Carden (the main bully of the land) is so evil and utterly divine. And a total A-hole. It takes about half the book for a little glimpse of his 'true' personality...
I had so many feels at the end of this book that I didn't know how I would make the wait for Wicked King. I did though, and now I don't know how to deal with the wait until the 3rd.
