This is a Young Adult Fantasy book. It follows our main character called Jude and her sisters as they reintegrate into a high palace. Prince Cardan is looking for a partner/potential wife. Jude takes lessons about fae history here and gets to know how to battle. This is unlike stereotypical women so I liked this bit.
However the world building was extremely complicated and I found the characters so simple that they were boring to read. I did not think that Cardan and Jude had a good connection and there was not as much romance as I expected there to be between them.
But the way they spoke about global issues that are current like female menstrual cycle and how it is viewed in society was good and helpful for younger readers to know that periods should be normalised.
Overall, I did not like it enough to want to read the Wicked Queen and I wouldn’t recommend it as I don’t think it was beneficial to read.
