When we are introduced to Jude in one of her worst moments the darker tone for the rest of the book is immediately set. As we follow Jude throughout her life as an outsider we discover that the mystical world is not how many would dream it would be. I loved seeing the land of faerie from a mortals point of view as we were able to learn more about the world as Jude comments on aspects that we would never learn if we were reading from a faerie's point of view.
Jude is the definition of a strong protagonist. Her calculating stance and realistic approach made me love her even more. It was nice to follow a main character who does not view themselves as a hero or the chosen one. Jude understands that to get anywhere in her world she needs to behave without compassion. Jude has many flaws but we see her address these and work to combat. I did love the romance and the extreme slow burn that makes me want to pick the next one up as soon as I can to see how they end together.
