I was immediately gripped by the prologue, and I loved how you could see how the events that happened in it shaped the characters. However from there I found that it was quite slow paced and it took too long to get into the main action. However once it started I found it unable to put down. I loved how there were a range of complex characters and how it wasn't heavily based on romance like other young adult novels. Instead it was more focused on developing the various mysteries within the book which allowed the characters to develop rather than having their growth stunted by early romances.
Although I enjoyed the book it took quite a bit of effort to get through at the start as there was a lot of setting up before it started. However I would still recommend to those who enjoy a good fantasy story without excessive romance
