This book was recommended to me by many of my friends. I can’t lie; I had high expectations with this book that was not met. This book is quite slow, but the world building is really easy to understand. I love Jude and Cardan. Jude is an ambitious character who is willing to take risks. I love how she goes against their standards of what she should be. She’s her own person and doesn’t rely on others. And Cardan is just amazing. He is sarcastic and has a brain, and he is misunderstood. I LOVED the banter between the two.
At first it was just Cardan bullying Jude. To be honest, I couldn’t really see the 2 of them having a relationship at the beginning. It was a slow progress, but their relationship didn’t really hit until the end of the book. I felt as if they went from being just enemies to being in low-key good ‘friendship’. I did love the scene when Jude put a dagger to Cardan’s throat, but I did feel like it escalated really fast.
What I didn’t like in this book was Tarin. She just really annoyed me. She was a really bad sister to Jude, even though Jude stood up for her countless times and would die for her. Tarin is the definition of selfish. She has no personality and is just stuck up.
