Cruel Prince follows the story of Jude, one of three sisters living in the lands of Faerie, as she tries to find her place in the world she lives in, but also as she tries to decide whether she wants to stay in this world at all, or return to the mortal world. Except it's not all as easy as it seems. Because the reason why Jude, her mortal twin-sister Taryn and her fae half-sister live in Faerie is because their father killed their mortal parents in cold blood - for revenge. And now, Jude must decide which path to follow: Obey the Fae of the High Court like Taryn does and find a safe place in their society, or fight the cruel Prince Cardan and his gang until they tire of their often life-threatening bullying? A choice of life and death, and Jude isn't about to let her bullies get away with walking all over her and physically hurting her. What I liked best about this book - which was the first in a series and I CAN'T WAIT for the sequel - is that the characters are all morally grey. None of the characters is all good or all bad. You think you know their goals, their morals, but in the end, Cardan isn't the only cruel character in the book. That's also why I love the title so much, because it's a two opposite words: cruel = bad and prince = good. And that's what's so well-reflected in the complexity of the characters and plot. No one is all-bad or all-good and no actions are all-good or all-bad. If you want to read about about Fae, sisterhood, a main character finding out where she belongs and figuring out how to stand up for herself, some magic, fighting, strategy, morally grey characters, plot twists, beautiful read, then this book might just be what you're looking for.
