The Cruel Prince is one of the first fantasy novel I've read and let me tell you, this book has exceeded my expectations in many ways. Whenever, I indulge myself in a book, I always look for strong female leads because why not? Jude Duarte is everything I look for in a character. I enjoyed following her journey as a mortal living in the kingdom of Elfhame, inhabited by the faeries. The way Holly Black portrays Jude's character and the many adversities she faces is brilliant. Jude is a powerful, level headed women who is not afraid to voice her opinion and demand the respect she deserves. Her fighting and combat skills is what piqued my interest.
The second lead, Cardan Greenbriar is also a very interesting character whom I actually despised during the course of the book.
If anyone is new to or looking to indulge in the genre of fantasy, the cruel prince is the perfect book to start with!!
