Where to start? This book is an amazing read, a tale of a whimsical land spun with beautiful words and gorgeous descriptions. The writing style alone could make this book one of my favourites. It fits so well with the theme, the beauty and horrors of Elfhame mirrored so perfectly in the author’s language.
The plot starts out slow, but in no means is the beginning boring. The start of the book establishes the characters, relationships and the land of Elfhame. It’s an exposition of what’s to come, and even just this is so fun to read. When the plot picks up, it’s enticing and unique, much different than any other YA I’ve ever read. The author centres this story around politics with a hint of romance, and it’s impossible to put down.
The characters, while flawed, were relatable and realistic. There were many I loved, some I could barely stand the sight of, and more still that had me questioning myself! A wonderful cast, with each character having a distinct voice and personality.
