This book completely took me by surprise as it was the first fantasy book I've ever read and it did not disappoint. I didn't expect to like this book so much, but Jude is my favourite character and I loved how she was mortal and was stronger and fiercer than all the other immortals in her class. Holly Black's writing is just so great, even though the book is not as big, she writes to the point and with intension and it does not drag out like other fantasy books I've read after this, so I'm very glad this was my first. Also, a fact I found out when reading was that Holly Black is the author of the Spider wick Chronicles, oh my god!!!
I'm so glad to add Jude to the list one of my favourite heroine's in literature. Her character was written so well and her relationship with her family was written so realistically. I am not a big fan of her sister Taryn though. I enjoyed how Jude did not back down to Carden's taunts and seeing her in action was so wonderful to read.
