I did end up enjoying this book more than I thought I would at the beginning. It starts off being quite juvenile with some high school drama and bullying going on. I'm not really interested in that but later on the book becomes so much more. There's lots of politics, spying and scheming going on.

The second half is far more interesting, this is where the story really stands out for me. I love politics and plotting in books. This is when it turns into a book about succession and taking the throne. This is when Jude really comes into her own and when we get to see more of Carden. The twist at the end really leads up to the next book.

Overall, this book was slow to start and a bit too much high school drama for me but it did get a lot better and ended up being a pretty great read. The ending left me excited to read the next book as I feel it will be much better.
