This was incredible. Went in with high expectations and this book definitely did not disappoint. The Cruel Prince is a dark, luscious, and enchanting tale, one of Holly Black's best. Her writing was exceedingly magnificent and engaging throughout the entire book. The plot, pacing, and world-building were all perfect, followed by not-so-perfect characters, but captivating nonetheless. The protagonist, Jude is fearless and vengeful and unquestionably one of my favourite characters portrayed in YA Fantasy; her reckless and determined nature was interesting and spellbinding from the very beginning. Cardan, on the other hand, I despised at first. However, as the book went on, he slowly but surely grew on me.
By the end, the only thing I thought was that I HAVE to read book two ASAP.
A lot of reviewers seem to have found this book slow at first, but I felt it was gripping from the very first sentence. I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.
