I'm unsure why I put off reading this book for so long, because I heard about it when it first came out. I finally decided to read it this summer and it's rapidly become one of my favourite books.

This story follows Jude, a human girl living in Faerie, who is desperate to gain power beyond what is granted to her. She's constantly causing trouble in her attempts to retain a powerful appearance, much to her twin's dismay, and rapidly becomes the go-to target of all of the elite students in her class, including Prince Cardan, the cruel and reckless youngest sibling of the royal family. As tensions in Faerie rapidly increase, Jude finds herself caught up in the issues of the royal family in her mission to become a spy and a fighter.

My description of this book doesn't do it justice at all. Jude is an incredible anti-hero, and Cardan makes a fascinating villain. Holly Black invents a magnificent world and I couldn't wait five minutes before jumping into the sequel. I would recommend anyone who enjoys YA fantasy should read this book immediately.
