Surprisingly Good!
I entered into this book unsure of exactly why I was bothering, I thought this is going to be another young adult fiction that has almost become a sub genre of its own in fantasy books.
I was however pleasantly surprised as from the opening sentences, this book is very well written. It starts straight into the story with a very ominous then shocking opening.
As the first chapter played out I again thought it was going to turn into just another YA fantasy, which I find tend to try to hard, but again I was pleasantly surprised as the story began to suck me in. The world that the author has created wasn't the painfully formulaic setting I had expected, it felt very real in my mind and I could really get a picture of what it looked like and how the characters inhabit it.
