The Cruel Prince is one of the most original young adult fantasy books I have ever read: it currently has its place of honour on the very top of my book shelf. As well as having an extremely well thought-out world, characters and magic system, Holly Black manages to capture the true nitty-gritty nature of an enemies-to-lovers trope with significant emphasis on 'enemies'.
The book follows Jude as she navigates, as a human, her way around Elfhame with her twin sister. In my opinion, everything written by Holly Black is captivating and stunningly-writter however The Cruel Prince specifically is perfect. The intense world building which is present in the first book is such a joy to read and learn about and it is a guaranteed cure to any kind of book slump or boredom with similar reading fantasy/romantasy/young adult literature. Would highly recommend!
