I bought this book only because the cover was calling to me, and I did not regret it! I was hooked it from the first sentence. A mysterious creature, murder of parents, and found family at the start of a book? What else would the readers want? Honestly, I loved Jude from the very start until the end. She was a relatable MC. Someone tried to hurt you? Kill them. Your foster father is treating you worse than your twin? Do everything to annoy him. As I started reading the book I felt like I was the narrator of Jude's story, and it was an incredible experience! The character development was just *cheff kiss* and the slow burn romance was perfect. Im convinced everyone who read this book worships the dagger-to-throat scene to this day. But lets talk about Cardan now (AKA the furry with a tail). Many people hated him from the start, but I was madly impressed how he was introduced in a way that was supposed to make us fear him. But him tearing that faerie's wing off tho?- That was the moment I knew this book was going to be a wild ride. When it was mentioned he has a tail I was left in tears. Especially because he's an alcoholic, and I can only imagine how funny it must have been for the people who watched him act when he was drunk. Its sure a book recommendation for people new to YA fantasy. The world is not hard to understand, and the information is planned out well! Just remember, romance is only a sub plot, so dont expect much of it! The politics are surely enough to make up for it tho.
