Ummm before I even begin, let me just say, the cover is gOrGEouS!! I mean, the crown, and then the BEETLE?! Amazing. Just amazing.
Okay now for the actual contents of the book. Holly Black is an extremely gifted writer, who is especially suited for writing tales so descriptive, you can see, taste, hear and feel everything that is going on. She uses beautiful wording and phrases that connect the reader to the characters and setting. This book, as a whole, is a masterpiece.
The Cruel Prince centers around a young girl named Jude. She is a mortal living in the faerie world, constantly surrounded by impossibly magnificent creatures, most of them believing that mortals should only be allowed to live in their world as servants, and nothing more. But Jude lives like one of them. And that angers some people. Some people being Prince Cardan. Cruel, vicious, and seemingly bloodthirsty, Cardan is constantly pestering Jude and her twin Taryn. While Taryn backs down, Jude fights back against his torment. Even though Jude is only a mortal, she is incredibly resilient, skilled and strong. Although some ignore this fact, Prince Dain, one of Cardan’s brothers, recognizes Jude’s talent for not only sword fighting, but she can also lie, which faeries are incapable of doing. Prince Dain hires Jude to be one of his spies, helping him as the choosing of the new High King of faeries looms in the near future. As the story goes on, many clues that were scattered throughout the book begin connecting together, creating an amazing story with a great mystery to go along with it.
There are many different elements including enemies to lovers, murders, intrigue, and mythical creatures. If you are looking for an exquisitely and aesthetically written book, pick this book up and READ IT!! :)
