When I saw this book, I was shocked as it is very popular on BookTok and BookTube and I instantly opened the pdf. I was pleasantly surprised, the opening line is probably one of the best I've read, it made me instantly curious and excited for what was to happen next. I also enjoyed the fact we were shown Jude and her sister's normal lives before the murder. I had seen Chapter 1 a lot on BookTok and I surprisingly like what Holly Black had done. It really shows how different their lives had gotten in the matter of a few hours and shows the real perspective of a kid who's been taken to a whole different world. At this point, I couldn't tell if I was meant to like Madoc, he murdered their parents but he also took great care of them and treats them like his own. I especially liked the bit where he gave Jude his own ruby pen as one of the students stole hers.
During the ball/party/whatever it was scene, I got a lot of Bridgerton vibes and I really liked Jude during the school scene with Cardan, she's such a baddie. I would love to read the rest of this book.
