This must be one of the greatest young adult fantasy books I've read in a very long time. The sorry captivated me from the very first page, Holly Black really has a gift of making stories come alive.
We follow our main character Jude, who is a human girl brought to the magical world of fay by her father after he killed the mother. Jude is having a rough time since the fay despise mortals and so the poor girl is always the victim of their evilness. Especially Prince Cardan, who happens to hate Jude a little too passionately..
However the attitudes of others are not major worries for her, the girl knows what she wants above anything - the unconditional love she has for her sister and brother is constantly being proven by Jude.
I particularly admire the character of Jude, she is an incredibly clever and determined young woman. Bravery must be her number one quality, which does pay off throughout her battle for power at the court.
With every page, the world becomes more and more fascinating! The book constantly makes one feel on edge, wanting more.
