This is book is one of my all-time favourites and it was the first Holly Black book that I read. The world building in this story is phenomenal. The descriptions are so vivid and detailed you will almost be convinced Elfhame is a real place. I especially loved how fleshed out and real the characters are. They act like real people with their own feelings, fears and motivations.
Jude Duarte is one of the most well written female characters I've ever come across in YA fiction. She is an empowered female character that has been able to draw strength from her childhood trauma abusive upbringing and the harshness of the Fae world. The family dynamics between Jude and her sisters is very nuanced and the difference between how the human twins Jude and Taryn cope with their feelings regarding their father compared to their half-fae older sister Vivi quite interesting.
