A good young adult fantasy read to introduce you to the genre. This first book very very gripping and keeps you interested the whole way through. The focus is mostly on the politics and life and death scenarios rather than any romance between the main characters. Our main character Jude is not your typical main female characters as she is more ruthless and kills, making her a very dark heroine. I really enjoyed the way the world was set up and also really enjoyed the dynamics between the main and side characters who I thought were also pretty well developed. However I would not recommend going in to this book expecting much romance or enemy’s to lovers. While there are some moments were Jude and the love interest seem to grow fond of each other, there isn’t actually many romantic moments. Overall this is a good fantasy read and I would recommend giving it a shot.
