After a brutal end to her parents lives the young Jude leaves the human world to live in the faerie kingdom with her half-sister's faerie creature dad and his family.
Jude grows up in this dangerous world where you can be tricked at any time. Jude is one half of a twin, however she is the dominant personality and hates her human weakness. The bane of her life at school is Prince Cardan. A cruel arrogant and really irritating faerie. He dominants the school with his 'pack' of similarity cruel friends.
Black's book was really slowed paced to begin with and I struggled to engage with any of the characters and the plot - until a bit of court intrigue and murder developed. I'd day the last 30% engaged my full attention - and I was reminded of the Blood Wedding scene in Game of Thrones during the climatic events.
Black plays with repellent character traits in both her central protagonists, so I'm assuming there's some clever personality twists coming later in the trilogy. I also can't quite engage with the principal male having a tail - ewww!

Overall, there's potential in this fantasy YA novel and I think I'll read on.
