This was my first Maeve Kerrigan book and my god was it good! I was a little skeptic although at first as I’ve come into an already established series but I didn’t need to read tho others before this one.

I was hooked right from the very beginning and loved how the case unfolded. Maeve is a smart, likeable character and I found myself liking her instantly. She feels like she could be a friend! I feel like there was much more between her and her colleagues that I’d missed out on by not reading the other books, but not so much that I couldn’t enjoy this one. I really enjoyed the way the case progressed and I found that it was perfectly laid out with little clues all the way through. Not so much to give it away but enough to keep you guessing and wanting to read on.

I liked how it involved the detectives personal lives too. I enjoyed seeing into their own lives and how their stories played out alongside the crime. A very clever and enjoyable read.

I can’t wait to go back and read the other books in this series now and see where it all began!
