I'd first like to say thank you to the team at Readers First and Harperfiction for sending me a digital copy of this book to read and review!

When a local Londoner finds dismembered parts of a body in the river, Maeve Kerrigan and her team step in to not only find the murderer but also find who the body parts belong to. It's soon established that this is so much more than just a murder crime, with Kerrigan and her team finding an elite gentlemen's club in the spotlight for this poor woman's murder. But as more bodies and more crimes begin to unfold, Maeve finds herself further from the killer than she thought...

I have never read a book by Jane Casey before, and I was a little hesitant when I found this was part of a series from Jane's Maeve Kerrigan series. However, it worked brilliantly as a stand-alone, making it easier for a new reader like myself to enjoy all the characters, and the plot, in all of their glory.

The plot was full of everything a good thriller should be. There were countless crimes, dirt on pretty much everyone and unsuspecting twists with every page turn. The moment I thought I had guessed it, Jane Casey pulled the rug from underneath me and exposed an even darker horror.

When it comes to thrillers and crime novels, characters are very important to me. There needs to be a good balance when it comes to suspects. Thankfully, Jane delivered an excellent array of characters with incredible backstories that were fully fleshed out and enjoyable. I was second-guessing a lot of them, too, which added to the thrill of the book.

Overall, this was definitely the type of book I'd normally reach for and didn't let me down when it came to plot, characters or writing. Definitely a name to watch!
