This is the first DS Maeve Kerrigan story I have read, and it certainly won't be my last. It was well written, and easy to read; although at times it did feel that it would have been beneficial to have read the back catalogue.
Body parts are discovered on the Thames shoreline, and Maeve is called upon to investigate...she eventually discovers that the deceased was a journalist named Paige Hargreaves. Before her disappearance, Paige was working on a story about the murky world of The Chiron Club, a private members only society for men.
We follow Maeve as she investigates the murder and The Chiron Club, but there are also other storylines to do with Maeve's own life, and her work partner's life (DI Josh Derwent). Some of the 'extraneous' storylines feel superfluous to requirements if you read this as a standalone book, but I guess they work as connecting threads throughout the series...
