I think, personally, that I would have given this book 5 stars if I had read all of the previous stories. I reckon I would have had a better understanding of the relationships between Maeve and Josh and all the other characters in the book. However that said, this is quite a good stand alone book, and the author gives you enough information to build up a good idea of how everyone works and fits into the story.
Kerrigan and Derwent obviously have a lot of unsaid chemistry between them, although they are dating other people, their close working relationship keeps things a little strained at times. The Chiron Club is an exclusive members only club, and when a young journalist is found, dismembered in the Thames, all signs point to The Chiron Club as the culprits. Getting anything out of them is next to impossible and it is up to Kerrigan and Derwent to solve the crime. There were some predictable bits in it, and also some great twists at the end, and if I had been paying attention at the beginning, I probably would have come to the same conclusions, but that's the beauty of Casey's writing!
Definitely recommend reading this one, and also all of the many previous books too! Jane Casey reminds me of a female version of the author Peter James.
