I haven't read any of Jane Casey's books before but after reading The Cutting Place I want to read the earlier books in this series. The story is complete in itself but some themes are following on from previous books. Maeve Kerrigan is investigating the murder of a young freelance journalist who had been writing an article about an exclusive gentlemen's club. However this is not the only theme in the story. Maeve herself is keeping a secret from her co -worker Josh which affects their friendship. Josh warns her about her relationship with Seth which she ignores with serious consequences. There are several twists and turns in the story building up to a dramatic ending.
