The 9th book in the Maeve Kerrigan series is police procedural perfection. Her characters are so well developed and her story’s are masterful. I envy anyone who can read the Maeve Kerrigan series from the beginning, they are in for a real treat.

The main mystery of the book is based on a murder at a private members club. I did feel that the resolution of this aspect of the story was almost an after thought due to the focus on Maeve’s private life, but this focus was my favourite part of the book so I am not complaining!

The real star of this book is the developing relationship between Josh and Maeve. The cutting place resolves what I felt was the last main obstacle between Maeve and josh getting together, which was brought up in the earlier book the stranger you know in a way that felt authentic and true to the characters. The slow burn between them is so satisfying.
