I enjoyed this book so much, this is a police procedural but, with so many more layers. I really felt that I got to know the characters and their relationships with one another. I found myself really feeling empathy with Maeve and willing her on to fight the cases she was involved in both personally and professionally. There were unexpected twists and I found this really picked up the pace about a third of the way in, I sped through this in two days. There is a lot of detail but, not too much that you feel overloaded with fact. The crimes are not detailed in gory detail and there isn’t offensive language as can be the case with some books in this genre. I’ve read another of Jane Casey’s books; Cruel Acts and very much enjoyed that too.
